School meal cost increase from 3.2.25

Monday 13th January 2025

Dear Parents,

School Meals Increase

I am writing to inform you of an increase to the cost of school meals which will take effect from Monday 3rd February 2025.

As you will be aware, there has been a significant increase in costs associated with meal production – both in relation to food supplies and energy costs. Whilst we have worked with our current provider Mellors to try to keep the costs as low as possible, we are now at a point where we need to review this.

The cost of a school meal will rise from £2.40 per day to £2.50 per day. This means the overall weekly increase is 50p. The new weekly cost of the school meals will be £12.50.

The Government has continued to support the Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM) initiative and this means that all of the children from Reception, Year 1 & Year 2 can be provided with a school meal free of charge.

If your child is in Y3-Y6 and you are in receipt of certain benefits your children may be entitled to free school meals. Applications can be made online at https://www.redcar-cleveland.gov.uk/schools-and-education/free-school-meals or forms are available from the school office.

Yours sincerely,

Alexa O’Gara

Executive Head Teacher
