Mrs O’Gara

Headteacher

Mrs O’Gara has worked at Nunthorpe Primary Academy for since 1994 and loved it so much she has been here forever!  She first started as English Leader, which is still her preferred subject area, and has worked her way up to Head Teacher.  She has been Head Teacher since 2011.  Mrs O’Gara loves being involved in PE and outdoor education and particularly enjoys netball.In her spare time Mrs O’Gara likes to spend time with her family, usually watching her children or Boro play football and enjoying the outdoors.  She loves swimming and is keen on keeping fit.

Mr Salter

Deputy Head Teacher

Mr Salter has been at Nunthorpe since he qualified in 2007, working his way up to Deputy Head Teacher. Previously he has lead geography, ICT and maths, but now he is KS2 leader and helps to oversee teaching, learning and assessment.

Out of school he enjoys running, building his model railway and being outdoors as well as sitting as a magistrate in the school holidays. As a former Royal Marines Commando he looks forward to getting outdoors on our residential trips in the summer.

Mrs Leason

Assistant Head Teacher

Mrs Leason has been at Nunthorpe Primary for 13 happy years and has worked her way up to becoming Assistant Head Teacher.  For 6 years she has been the SENDCo and is now the KS1 leader. Previously she has enjoyed leading P.E. and PSHE. Outside of school, Mrs Leason enjoys swimming and spending quality time with her family and friends. She especially loves to spend time with her two young children who keep her very busy!

Mrs Wilson

School Business Manager

Mrs Wilson is the School Business Manager who has been at Nunthorpe Primary since 2008.  She has worked in education administration for 30 years.  She is responsible for managing the budget and the smooth running of the school.  Her role is diverse and includes dealing with matters of Health and Safety, repairs, data management and cross-country!  Outside of school, she enjoys the outdoors, particularly caravanning, walking and occasionally running.  She likes to get involved with after school events when possible and is always looking for fundraising opportunities.

Miss Follan

EYFS Leader / Reception Teacher

Miss Follan has taught here at Nunthorpe Primary Academy for 16 years.  She leads the EYFS team and currently teaches in Reception Class. She loves supporting children to become strong, independent learners by creating a quality and challenging learning environment for them. Out of school Miss Follan enjoys spending time with family and friends and going for long walks with her son Joseph.

Miss Topliffe

Nursery Teacher

Miss Topliffe has worked in Early Years for most of her teaching career. She loves working with children in the earliest stages of their school lives and enjoys thinking of creative ways for children to learn new skills. Outside of school, Miss Topliffe enjoys reading, dancing, baking, arts and crafts. She loves spending time with family and friends and has recently got an excitable puppy who keeps her very busy!

Miss Close

Reception Teacher

Miss Close has been teaching for over 20 years and she has a lot of experience in KS1 and Foundation Stage. She took 2 years out mid-way through her career to travel and spent a lot of time in Asia and Africa. She currently teaches in FS1 at Nunthorpe and visits lots of other schools in the afternoon to teach Yoga Bugs. Outside of school Miss Close loves adult yoga, clubbercise and cycling with her bike club.

Miss Tripp

Year Three Teacher

Miss Tripp has been teaching for 13 years, both in England and abroad. Throughout her time teaching she has taught in every year group from Nursery up to year six. Outside of school Miss Tripp is interested in reading, music and spending time with her friends and family. She follows most sports, especially football and is a keen scuba diver.

Miss Cornforth

Year Four Teacher

Miss Cornforth has been at Nunthorpe since 2013 and is now a Newly Qualified Teacher working in KS2. She enjoys every aspect of the curriculum, enhancing learning and increasing outdoor learning whenever possible! Miss Cornforth is the PE leader and the link teacher for the School Sports Partnership, and hopes to drive participation across school.  Outside of school, Miss Cornforth plays netball and coaches a junior section at a local club. She also enjoys travelling, spending time with family and friends and eating!

Mrs Sturman

Year Five Teacher

Mrs Sturman is the Year 5 class teacher and is the subject leader for History and Geography.  In addition to this, Mrs Sturman is also the coach for our school Lego League Team.  She has taught in Key Stage two throughout her teaching career.  In her spare time, Mrs Sturman enjoys reading and running.

Mrs Hamilton

Science Teacher

Mrs Hamilton has taught here at Nunthorpe Primary for 14 years and is our Science and Design Technology leader. She teaches her favorite subject (Science) to all classes from Y2 to Y6. She is keen on the Great Outdoors.

Mrs Chapman

Modern Foreign Languages Teacher

Mrs Chapman has worked at Nunthorpe Primary for 16 years, first of all as a class teacher and, more recently, as our French teacher.  She loves teaching and learning languages and also speaks Spanish and Italian.  When she is not at our school you can find her teaching French at Nunthorpe Academy.

Mrs Smith

TA

Mrs Smith is the Year 5 Teaching Assistant.  Throughout her time at Nunthorpe Primary Academy, she has worked with a range of different aged children including Foundation Stage, Key Stage one and lower Key Stage two.  She has a particular strength in the teaching of phonics and is the school’s stationery co-ordinator.  In her spare time, Mrs Smith enjoys reading and walking.

Mrs Iceton

TA

Mrs Iceton has worked at Nunthorpe Primary for over 20 years.  In that time she has worked in all classes from Nursery to Year Six!  Mrs Iceton loves the challenge of working with pupils with specific needs and leading art in school.In her spare time Mrs Iceton loves nothing more than days by the river, fishing.

Mrs McGinley

TA

Mrs McGinley is the TA in year 4 who always has a smile for everyone.  She enjoys cookery and bakes excellent cakes for all the staff!  She enjoys football and is a big Middlesbrough supporter. Mrs McGinley also loves spending time with her family

Mrs Nicholson

TA

Mrs Nicholson joined the team at Nunthorpe in 2010 and currently supports Key stage 1 and Breakfast Club. Outside of school she has a keen interest in baking as well as arts and crafts. Mrs Nicholson often delivers focused handwriting sessions after school for Key Stage 1 children. She enjoys socialising with family and friends, particularly visiting different campsites when she has the opportunity.

Mrs Pearson

TA

Mrs Pearson has been a Teaching Assistant at Nunthorpe Primary since 2008 and is now our ‘TA voice’ representing all of our TA’s. She works exclusively in Year 6 and teaches maths and phonics to groups of pupils. Mrs Pearson runs the school council. Mrs Pearson enjoys all aspects of the outdoors and really enjoys going on the Y6 residential trips.

Mrs Hill

Mrs Hill has worked at Nunthorpe Primary for many years, she began as Deputy in our stay and play club and in recent years she has become a teaching assistant in Early Years. Outside of school she enjoys swimming, walking her dog and spending time with her family.

Mrs Oxley

TA

Mrs Oxley has worked at Nunthorpe Primary in various year groups throughout school. She is now really enjoying working as part of the Early Years Team. Outside of school, Mrs Oxley enjoys walking both of her dogs, listening to music and spending time with her family.

Miss Scurr

TA

Miss Scurr has worked as a Teaching Assistant in Early Years at Nunthorpe Primary for 5 years. She has supported lots of different children in their learning including pupils with special needs. Miss Scurr loves to make learning fun for our youngest learners in Nursery by ensuring they are always active, engaged and learning new skills. Outside of school she enjoys spending time with her 2 boys and family and fits in piloxing classes when she can.
